Raped Five Times, Arrested 41 and Battling Addiction, Amy Found God and Recovery and Now She Helps Other Women
One of the most inspirational stories I've heard
The first time I met Amy Hailey, I stopped and listened to her story, and I haven't stopped thinking about her inspirational recovery and comeback yet.
If she can do it, anyone can.
She was raped five times, including an assault by a neighbor at a young age, and arrested 41 times, including eight DUIs, and beating cancer two times. On the street, she was battling addiction and hopelessness, but God, her mother, and her siblings never gave up.
We reveal Amy's story on today's new episode of A Little Crazy with David Magee podcast, and you will want to listen and share. She's a miracle and an inspiration to all.
Amy learned recovery through Faith and the incredible support of women at The Lovelady Center in Birmingham, Alabama. She found joy, and now, today, she's one of the influential members of the team at The Lovelady Center, a faith-based center for helping women and children recover. As an intake specialist, she's one of the first faces women see when they arrive, broken and needing help. They see in Amy someone they can trust, who's been there. Who’s escaped and found joy.
We all experience hardships, some harder than others, but all of life is hard if we're honest. That's why I love Amy Hailey's story so much, because everyone can use her inspiration, and I hope you will listen to today's new A Little Crazy with David Magee podcast episode that just released.
Her life takes hard to a different level, but anyone can if she can do it. God, family, and other women at the Lovelady Center changed Amy's life. Now, she's helping so many other women change their lives.
Give this episode a listen, and tell someone else to listen. You haven't heard anything like the powerful voice of Amy Hailey.
Some of the most powerful quotes from Amy in this episode:
“(The kidnappers) were still doing cocaine and honestly, I can tell you that I still wanted to use some cocaine before they killed me. I know that sounds horrible to say, but I mean, if I’m going to be honest about this, it’s like, will you please just let me?”
Amy explains that she had been to treatment 16 times before she was at absolute bottom after the kidnapping and rape, and that her sister recommended The Lovelady Center in Birmingham as one last try. “My mother made me a brown paper bag. She put two slices of pizza, a banana, and a can of Coca-Cola in it, and a paper towel. And she told me good luck and that she loves me. She was saying, now it’s up to you.”
When she struggled, “I’m like, I’m doomed. I hope not. But I could never get a relationship with the Lord.”
“I love my job. I can’t wait to get to work. I love it. I love being with the woman. I love working with the women. We have like 180 on our waiting list.”
I hope you’ll check out The Lovelady Center in Birmingham, and consider an end of year donation, in the name and honor of Amy, and all the women she fights for.
